Shoes, Made-By-You

Role
Co-creator · Curriculum designer · Facilitator · Technical lead

Context
I co-created and led a hands-on footwear workshop with DesignWith Lab, guiding participants to design and build their own shoes using minimal tools. The program translated complex manufacturing and circular design principles into an accessible, experiential learning system, focused on making, iteration, and real-world constraints to teach design through doing.

Results

  • Delivered workshops for cohorts of 8–15 participants.

  • Curriculum adopted and continued by DESIGNwith instructors.

  • Program framework used to support biomaterials research collaboration with Faculdade Belas Artes + OCAD + DesignWith Lab.

  • Expanded into community programming through Lay-Up youth initiative.

Used as framework for biomaterials research collaboration.

Broader Impact

The workshop evolved into a scalable platform supporting community programming and biomaterials research collaborations. It demonstrated how participatory, hands-on design can expand access to design knowledge beyond traditional studio settings.
